Webster Dictionary defines “nerd”, somewhat patronizingly, as “one slavishly devoted to intellectual pursuits.” Michael prefers Urban Dictionary’s definition, “one whose IQ is greater than their weight,” but concedes that both are accurate. While Michael loves a good math problem as much as the next nerd, he’s much more interested in how the problem interfaces with others in the real world. He has a passion for giving back to his community and working with his hands to bring theoretical ideas to their full potential. You’ll often find him at the Faulhaber Fabrication Lab tinkering with a new mechanical contraption or working with a team of like-minded students to build a solution to a community issue using science!
Michael recently graduated from Pine View School and is pursuing a BS in Mechanical Engineering at Caltech. Due to COVID-19, he has taken a leave of absence and currently works as a hardware engineer for H2Ok Innovations, an IoT-enabled data analytics platform. He’s also taken on an internship here at SCF Innovate to help out behind the scenes and gain valuable experience on the business side of things.
Logan is a 19 year old, Spaniard-American, 2nd year Senior USF Mechanical Engineering student and Eagle Scout.
Logan enjoys camping, outdoor activities, working on construction projects (whether family’s furniture or on a rappelling tower), spending countless hours on computers and game consoles including programming, learning new software, creating documents, using emulators, speedrunning video games, media editing, and using a different OS other than Windows such as Linux.
One of Logan’s most memorable trips was when he was a Camp Restoration Staff member at Centro Scout Griébal, a Scout Camp located in a previously abandoned 12th Century village near Aínsa, Spain (a town in the Pyrenees Mountains). Logan has spent time with Scouts troops from all over Europe, and even apprenticed with a local expert stonemason while using the original stones to rebuild the walls of Aínsa dwellings.
